Universal Power Drives Ltd
This is the third Customer Competition GT version built by Universal Power Drives and was displayed in the specification as supplied to private entrants, at the January 1967 Racing Car Show. The customer Competition specification incorporated rose-jointed suspension and Disc-brakes to the rear suspension and a front Anti-roll bar. The custom built Roll-over bar has been fitted by a previous owner.
Its first owner was the well known West Country engineering company, Janspeed Engineering, who purchased the car in June 1967. After a few UK National events, driven that year by Geoff Mabbs, it notably competed in a race at the Jarama circuit, Spain. Note: The wide rear clamshell was fitted during the Janspeed period and was not homologated by the factory.
Soon after it was sold to Brian Harvey, then Marketing Manager at the motoring magazine Cars & Car Conversions, in whose colours the car was did some sprints. Following a few more ownerships, the car ended up in Belgium when, now painted yellow, it's owner raced it at circuits such as Spa and Zolder. Bought by its previous owner in 2014, its livery was restored to that of its C&C Conversions period.
The current owner has carried out an extensive professional restoration of the chassis and is fitted with a 1293cc Cooper 'S' engine & gearbox.
