In my last Blog post, I mentioned that the by now well known, 1969 Unipower GT, had been sold by its Belgian motor dealer to a new owner in Denmark.
Well, a few weeks ago after speaking with its new owner Michael, a previously planned trip to Copenhagen provided an ideal chance to meet with him and discuss his new acquisition and what plans he has for the car going forward, given that it is now very much a race car, albeit a converted Road version.
Meeting Michael at the Radisson Hotel in central Copenhagen was a pleasure and I was very encouraged to see his obvious enthusiasm for the car and how excited he is about what he will do with the car next year. Michael has the benefit of being having a very mechanically minded and also has the assistance of a professional car preparation workshop to assist him.
Having known this car for over 40-years now, we discussed some essential work that I had identified which must be completed before any meaningful competition was attempted. As with any competition car you acquire, a full familiarisation with all its working components will also be completed by Michael and his team in the coming months.
For now, his plan is to get the car ready for the 2025 racing season, with some testing in April/May at a local Danish test track.
Its first race in Denmark is intended to be the Viborg Classic on the 29th – 30th – 31st May. Its next outing is to be the prestigious Copenhagen Classic held on the 8th – 9th – 10th August.
I very much look forward advising Michael where needed and to seeing the car back on track and being driven as it should, as previous attempts over the past years has really not done it justice.
More on its progress as it evolves and I'm sure we all wish every success to Michael in 2025.
